FHLB Dallas and Sunward Federal Credit Union Award Nearly $500K to Advance Affordable Housing in New Mexico

Funds to Benefit San Felipe Pueblo Housing Authority and Zuni Housing Authority

ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO, October 14, 2025— The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) and Sunward Federal Credit Union announced nearly $500,000 in grants to support affordable housing for New Mexico families. At a ceremonial event in Albuquerque, New Mexico, FHLB Dallas awarded $250,000 to Zuni Housing Authority and $247,000 to San Felipe Pueblo Housing Authority—part of a $2.7 million commitment benefiting 11 housing organizations statewide this year. The funds were celebrated today during a ceremonial check presentation.

The grants are part of $2.7 million in funding awarded to 11 tribes or tribally designated housing entities (TDHEs) through the FHLB Dallas Native American Housing Opportunities (NAHO) Fund.

“Ensuring all communities across the Southwest have access to good, affordable homes is vital to long-term stability and economic growth," said Sunward Executive Vice President Alex de la Cruz. "We are honored to support the San Felipe Pueblo and Zuni housing authorities through this partnership with FHLB Dallas, a critical step toward helping indigenous individuals and families in New Mexico access housing."

The NAHO Fund was created to address the housing needs of federally recognized tribes and TDHEs.

Grants may be used for a wide range of housing-related needs, including down payment and closing cost assistance, rental support, home repairs and new construction. The program also provides grants for administrative and operational expenses such as new program development and consultant fees.

“Affordable housing remains one of the most pressing needs across New Mexico,” said Greg Hettrick, senior vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas. “These funds represent more than financial support—they’re an investment in stability, opportunity and the long-term well-being of families and communities.”
